Enrolling at ASE

Requirements for entry to Academy of Sound Engineering:
    TWO-YEAR DIPLOMA PROGRAMME
  • Students who would like to enroll with the Academy of Sound Engineering must have a Grade 12 certificate or equivalent qualification.
  • Individuals who are older than 25 years of age and who do not have a Grade 12 certificate or equivalent qualification may apply to ASE for an age exemption.
  • Students who Matriculated in 2008 or after and have Pure Maths, automatically qualify for the Diploma Course, provided they have passed Matric.
  • If they have Maths literacy, we require a 70% pass and a Matric Pass.
  • If a student has matriculated before 2008, entry requirements are slightly different.

ACCESS PROGRAMME (3 YEARS, ACCESS TO TWO-YEAR DIPLOMA QUALIFICATION)

Minimum Grade 10 Schooling

PART-TIME BASIC SOUND ENGINEERING CERTIFICATE
No entry requirements

PART-TIME ADVANCED SOUND ENGINEERING CERTIFICATE
Must have passed Basic Part-time Certificate or show suitable industry experience.

PRO-TOOLS 101
No entry requirements

OTHER PRO TOOLS COURSES
Must have passed the lower Pro Tools module

Foreign student policy:
  • Foreign students (ie non-SA residents) who wish to enroll at ASE must be in possession of a valid study permit.
  • Invitation letters can be arranged by our admin office, please let us know which course you wish to study, your ID/passport details, full name and surname, postal and street address and contact number.
  • Course fees (tuition and additional costs) must be paid in full prior to commencement of the course.
  • All prices reflected are indicted in the South African Rand.

Accommodation:
Independent accommodation facilities are available; as ASE is housed in the SABC we do not have on-site accommodation but there is accommodation available in the area where we are situated.

Part Time Course in Audio Technology
  • 3 intakes per year.
  • Course runs for 12 weeks.
  • 3 Nights a week (Mon,Tue,Wed) 6pm to 9pm

Pro Tools Courses from 101 to 310
Students enrolling for our Pro Tools courses have two options regarding how they would like to study.
1. Firstly there is the Full time option. When a student studies full time the course runs during the week from 8am until 5pm from Monday to Friday. Thus the course is completed in one week per module.
2. The second option is to study part time in the evenings. This option allows the student to study 1 night a week from 6pm until 9pm and the course is completed in 12 weeks per module (12 evenings).

Open days
You are welcome to contact us to reserve a place at one of our open days. This will give you the opportunity to view our equipment and facilities and meet our staff.

Please check the News section at the top right of this page for Open Day dates and times.

Since open days begin with a presentation and a tour of ASE's state-of-the-art facilities, we request you to be as punctual as possible. After the tours, one-on-one aptitude tests and interviews with ASE staff-members take place. (Tests and interview at open days are optional)

Registrations
Registrations for 2009 are open during normal office hours. All students wishing to study at ASE are required to attend an interview and aptitude test. An interview time and date can be arranged with George at our admin office on 011 482 9200 or by going to the Contact Page link.
